WAYMART – Tomorrow is Flag Day and to celebrate, the annual Pride & Patriotism Parade and Block Party will take place, beginning at 2 p.m.
Lineup for the parade will be at the Robert D. Wilson School beginning at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at 2 p.m.
Fire companies will line up along Route 296 from the school, heading towards The Crossroads.
“Flag Day is all about honoring our American flag,” said Lilian Rollison, Waymart Borough Council President and member of Waymart Area Parties in the Park (WAPP).
WAPP puts on the event.
Rollison added the public should share support for all the kids marching in the parade who are “throwing candy and want everyone to clap and yell.”
After the parade there will be a memorial service in Wayside Park at the gazebo.
After the parade there will be a block party in the park.
The Waymart Fire Company will have a beer stand. There will be a lot of food vendors, games for kids and live music at night.
“It will be very enjoyable,” said Rollison.
The block party will run until 11 p.m.
Red Dragon Karate from Carbondale will be doing a karate demonstration from 4-5 p.m.
From 5-7 p.m. DJ Dennis Entertainment will provide music and from 7-11 p.m. Crimson Tears will be performing.
Other activities include a dunk tank, bounce house, a shark game, a game to win goldfish, a duck pond and mechanical bull.
“There will be plenty for the kids to do,” Rollison said.
New this year is a photo booth.
“It gets bigger and bigger each year,” Rollison stated.
Flag Day was first observed on June 14, 1885, when 19-year-old Bernard J. Cigrand was a teacher at Stony Hill High School.
In 1949, President Truman signed an Act of Congress that designated June 14 as National Flag Day. On June 14, 2004 the 108th Congress declared Flag Day originated in Waubeka, Wisconsin.
The next event will be Waystock on July 25 and 26.
WAPP is looking for vendors for the 26th. Call Rollison at (570) 488-5225.
