  • WHITE MILLS - Welcome summer at the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary when General Manager Tom Dein leads a walk around Trout Lake on the Sanctuary grounds. on Sunday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m.
    Tom, who has been the Sanctuary’s general manager for over 30 years, holds a degree in forestry from Penn State.
    He has likely skied or walked every inch of the property and will share his extensive knowledge of flora and fauna with the walkers.
    The walk, which will be on the Blue Heron Trail, is about .5 miles. This is an easy walk over flat terrain lasting between 30 to 45 minutes.
    The event will be held rain or shine. Dress appropriately and wear outdoor shoes.
    The program is open to anyone and there is no charge. No pets please. The Sanctuary, which is privately operated and supported by members and friends, has over five miles of walking trails.
    New members are welcomed. Memberships begin at $25.
    The property of the Sanctuary extends nearly 600 acres in the White Mills area. It is also home to the Dorflinger Glass Museum and the Wildflower Music Festival.

    The Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary located on Long Ridge Road and Elizabeth Street in White Mills.
    At the blinking light adjacent to the Pennsylvania Historic Marker in White Mills, turn and go up the steep hill (Elizabeth Street) for 6/10 of a mile to the stop sign at a second blinking light.
    Continue on for 1/10 of a mile to the entrance of the Sanctuary on your right. For GPS only, the address to use is 55 Fred Suydam Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.
