LACKAWAXEN TWP. — A Hawley man was arrested on charges he assaulted a resort public safety officer, said state police at Blooming Grove.
Paul Florek, 46, was taken into custody at 9:30 p.m. May 30 for aggravated assault and suspicion of DUI after an incident at Masthope Mountain Community, police said.
According to police:
Florek was stopped by Masthope security for traveling on the wrong side of Karl Hop Boulevard, which leads to a ski area and lodge.
The suspect became agitated and started to rev his engine. He went into reverse and backed up toward the victim, public safety officer Jace Conklin, 24.
Florek ignored commands to stop and nearly struck Conklin.
The suspect tried to flee and Conklin had to take "evasive action" to avoid being struck.
Florek continued to drive before stopping and being restrained by officers.
He showed signs of intoxication and failed sobriety tests. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for a blood test and placed in Pike County jail.
