    HONESDALE - The long winter is over and spring is almost gone. Kick-off your summer at historic Honesdale’s "Celebrate May”, Saturday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is brought to you by the Greater Honesdale Partnership, with support from Wayne County Tourism.
    You are invited to visit Honesdale and browse through the great variety of stores, learn about the wonderful local services, dine at one of the many area restaurants and cafes and stay the night at one of a variety of different lodging possibilities.
    Honesdale has great shops on every block, so wear your “walking shoes.” For a full list, please go to visithonesdalepa.com under Eat, Shop, Play or Stay or stop by one of the shops in Honesdale and pick our brochure, complete with a colorful map, list of this year’s events, and a historic walking tour.
    The birthplace of the American Railroad, Honesdale is proud to be the home of the Wayne County Historical Society’s museum, where visitors can see a full-scale replica of the famous Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on a commercial track in America and enjoy viewing the many interesting photographs from the past.
    The museum will be hosting two dramatic presentations of “A Miner’s Tale” about the Anthracite Coal Miners of our area, given by Robert Hughes. The first will be at 11 a.m. and the second presentation will begin at 2 p.m. The cost is $5.00 per person which will also include entrance to the museum. Seating is limited and no reservations can be accepted, so arrive early!
    Visitors can also enjoy other exhibits including the new Canal Park, Lock 31, the unique Lenape exhibit and Dorflinger Glass. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.
    New exhibits this year include Mystery Portraits of Wayne County; Historic Floods of Wayne County; Grandma’s Attic; Hands on Homestead and Paupack and Palmyra Township Schools.

    Page 2 of 3 - Enjoy the craft vendors lining Main Street. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Wayne County Farmers Market from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    The Farmers Market is located in front of Dave’s Super Duper which is located at 200 Willow Ave. (Rte. 6), and features fresh, locally grown produce, flowers, plants, herbs, homemade baked goods, jewelry, and many more locally made items. There is something for everyone at the Wayne County Farmers Market!
    Enjoy music with DJ Tom Emanski, starting at 11 a.m. under the Fred Miller Pavilion on Main Street.
    Be sure to stop by the GHP booth on Main St. in front of the HNB Corporate Center and learn more about Geocaching. Then grab your GPS or phone with GPS and get out in the fresh air while you “EAT, SHOP, PLAY and STAY in Honesdale PA! Check out Geocaching.com for more information and be sure to visit us at the GHP booth to pick up our 2014 Event Brochure and member merchant map.
    In May we celebrate Mother’s Day, Nurses Week and many graduations. As a special treat, the first 100 Mothers, May birthdays, Nurses, EMTs or May graduates stopping in at Honesdale Greenhouse Flowers, 524 Main Street, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will receive a free flower to help them Celebrate May!
    The seventh annual “Airing of the Quilts” is sure to bring color to Honesdale’s Main Street and Church Street as over 30 handcrafted quilts are displayed. The “Airing of the Quilts” is sponsored by A Stitch In Time. While you are looking at the quality stitch work, be sure to visit the yard sale around Central Park, brought to you by the First Presbyterian Church.
    There are plenty of reasons to spend the weekend here in Honesdale! Have fun at a Contra Dance at The Cooperage, 1030 Main Street on Saturday night. Sunday can be spent at the Friends of Soccer Tournament after a leisurely home cooked breakfast at one of our local eateries, or hiking in beautiful Prompton State Park, only a few miles outside of Honesdale.
    On Monday, experience a true taste of American patriotism as you enjoy the Honesdale Memorial Day Parade and ceremony.
