The State Correctional Institution at Waymart resumed regular operations late Wednesday afternoon, one day after an inmate was stabbed.
“At approximately 4:48 p.m., the prison lifted the emergency lockdown and returned to normal operations,” Superintendent Wayne J. Gavin said in a news release Thursday. “We conducted a thorough search of the facility and a minimal amount of contraband was discovered.”
On April 29 at about 9:12 p.m. corrections officers responded to a fight on a general population housing unit involving two inmates.
One of the prisoners slashed the other with a razor blade.
The injured inmate was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening wounds.
The institution was locked down so officials could conduct a facility-wide search.
SCI Waymart’s Security Office and the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating and the names of the inmates were not released.
