With the advent of the Tea Party movement, it’s become obvious that the Republican Party is plagued by a rash of political extremism, especially in the South.

But the last place I would expect this phenomenon to surface is in Wisconsin.

Granted, the GOP legacy in the Badger State includes the likes of infamous red-baiter Joe McCarthy. But this is the 21st Century, not the 1950s, and Wisconsin also has a proud history of political progressivism.

And yet, we see things like this happening:

–The Wisconsin state GOP convention will vote this coming weekend on resolutions declaring the state’s right to nullify federal laws and to secede from the Union.

–A member of the state Republican executive committee has declared that “secession is as American as apple pie.”

– A party official was booed at a recent caucus when he mentioned Abraham Lincoln while arguing against the proposed secession and nullification resolutions.

To be sure, more than a few solidly conservative Wisconsin Republicans are opposed to this radical nonsense. But still…

There’s more about all this HERE.
