WAYNE COUNTY - A Hawley man has been accused of possessing heroin with intent to deliver and driving under the influence.

Gavin John Vanwyckhouse, 30, was stopped by police on Route 590, near the Hideout in Salem Township, for an inoperable break light, said state police at Honesdale.

He exhibited signs of drug impairment and was taken into custody, police said, adding they also found 45 wax packets of heroin in the vehicle.

The incident happened at 12:46 a.m. March 29.

The suspect, who faces charges of DUI and drug possession with intent to deliver, was placed in the Wayne County Correctional Facility. Bail information was not available.

• Numerous thefts from vehicles have been reported in Berlin Township.

State police at Honesdale said most of the thefts happened on Milanville Road between April 19 and 20.

The vehicles were unlocked at the time and stolen were money, GPS units and a digital camera.

Police encourage residents to lock their vehicles.

• Kevin Kiefer, 21, of Hawley, was charged with retail theft after he concealed merchandise and left the Lake Region Supermarket in Palmyra Township at 4:40 p.m. April 15, police said.

The charge was filed in district court.

• Frank Volney Cleveland, age and hometown not listed, was cited for criminal trespass in Berlin Township 4 p.m. April 17, police said.

The suspect was charged after refusing to leave a house at 331 Catholic Church Road owned by a 55-year-old female, police said.

• A silver 32GB Apple IPad found in Honesdale was turned into the state police barracks at 8:30 p.m. April 14.
