  • — NACL Theatre invites residents of the Upper Delaware communities in Sullivan, Delaware, Pike, and Wayne counties to participate in a variety of workshops and events that will help shape "The Weather Project."
The project is a community arts and science initiative designed to bring citizens, artists and scientists together around the subject of the weather and climate science. The project culminates in an outdoor exhibition and community pageant play on Aug. 9 in Yulan, N.Y.
There are many opportunities to lend a voice to the conversation.
For example, become a citizen scientist with the Weather Data Collection Project, attend workshops and seminars on energy conservation and innovation, or collect stories from elders about weather and local history.
"You can also help to create and perform in the original theatre piece by joining in the research, writing and building of performance material; learning to stilt walk and sound paint; or join the chorus and help to create and operate puppets," according to a news release.
Free workshops will begin May 5 at NACL Theatre in Highland Lake, N.Y., and run weekly up to the outdoor pageant play on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Yulan ball field.
    The weekly workshop schedule is:
Mondays at 6:30 p.m., join Isabel Braverman and Corinna Grunn in developing the contemporary dance performance component of the pageant
Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., join director Tannis Kowalchuk in playmaking— acting, writing and singing (a chorus will be formed)
Tuesdays at 6:30, learn to stilt walk with Brett Keyser
Saturdays, NACL artists will work with the Young Company (13+) on acting techniques, physical and vocal exercises, stilt walking, playwriting, design, stagecraft and music from 2 to 5 p.m.
All workshops will be held at NACL Theatre, 110 Highland Lake Road, Highland Lake, N.Y.
Page 2 of 2 - In addition, master puppeteer Ramona Jan will help children and their parents build and operate marionette doves during a Family Puppetry Workshop on Sunday, July 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. The doves will be used in The Weather Project pageant, operated by the children who create them.
Any person or organization looking to participate may email NACL artistic director Tannis Kowalchuk at tannis@nacl.org or call 845-557-0694.
