HAWLEY - On Saturday, April 26 Jean Rohe, a “sure-footed songwriter” (NYTimes) and explorer of world music returns with one of Scotland’s most accomplished and unique harpists, Maeve Gilchrist.
Improvisation, textural adventurousness and quality songwriting is the foundation of their combined songwriting; creating unique vibrations as world influences combine with Maeve’s purposeful harp playing.
Telling of their versatility, they met while performing a contemporary classical music score as part of the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, but both have their roots in folk traditions and were trained as improvisers.
For this show, on the occasion of Hawley Earth Fest and the return of spring, they present songs full of nature imagery, culled from their own writing, traditional repertoire, and the collections of some of their favorite songwriters.
The show begins at 7:30 pm.
