  • HAMLIN - Members of the Salem Masonic Lodge #330 in Hamlin continue to spread cheer in the community.
On Wednesday, 30 Easter baskets were donated to needy families from the EverGreen Elementary School, part of the Western Wayne School District. The baskets included all of the fixings for an Easter dinner.
The lodge also donated baskets at Thanksgiving, where they helped out 12 families and Christmas, where 20 families received baskets.
Last year was the first year the lodge did this kind of donation.
The lodge receives the names of the families from the school's principal, Ellen Faliskie. Sue Schlasta, a social worker at EverGreen, is the coordinator.
“The school is really appreciative of what the lodge is doing for families in our school,” she said.
Robert Zabady, lodge member and owner of the Ellen Memorial Nursing Home in Honesdale, paid for the items and Honesdale Super Duper assembled the baskets.
The lodge members then picked them up and gave them out to the families at their lodge.
Lodge member Alvin Hollister, who is also the president of the Western Wayne School Board, donated boxes of candy from the Gertrude Hawk in Scranton for the baskets.
Harry Howell, a trustee with the lodge, said the members look forward to working with the school to help families in need.
“We look forward to doing it again in the fall,” he said.
