  • Eleven weeks down with one to go in the 2014 WNM Challenge!
My Saturday morning weigh in showed a 1.6lb weight loss. To say I was ecstatic to see the scale move more than a pound is an understatement. I was really getting discouraged with two solid weeks of .6 losses. I was beginning to feel as though I had lost my “mojo”.
In total I am now down 19.8lbs so far in this competition. I will need to lose an additional 3.4lbs in the next week to reach my adjusted 12 week goal of 23.2lbs total. It’s going to be a mad dash to the finish line, but I am not counting myself out of the race. Never, ever give up!
My strategy this week is three-fold:
    1. Eliminate all Weight Watchers bonus point usage.
    2. Add 5-10 minutes of exercise each day.
    3. Pray. (That should probably be number one on the list!)
In all actuality, these 12 weeks have just been the first of many for me. After I surpass this goal, I have another 40lbs to go before our wedding in July and then more weight to lose after that. One bite of the elephant at a time though. (I wonder how many calories are in each bite?)
The key for me is putting it all into units.
This is a journey and by breaking it down into segments of success keeps me motivated and gives me a reason to celebrate every now and then along the way. If you have a large project in front of you and you divide it into multiple parts it doesn’t make it feel so overwhelming. Make sense? The same thing is true with weight loss.
It’s also about give and take.
I was at a meeting in Corning, NY on Friday and it involved eating out. I planned for this by having a banana and a granola bar for breakfast on my drive, but when lunchtime came my options were limited. I settled on a chicken quesadilla and then countered it that evening with a bowl of Cheerios and skim milk. Even though lunch was an indulgence I was able to stay within my points allowance by making solid decisions the remainder of the day.
There’s a television commercial that states “A body in motion stays in motion.”
That is also an absolute truth.
Yes, we will lose weight by reducing our caloric intake. We will not lose as much weight though if we do not exercise. We will also not tone up and the fat will turn to flab instead of muscle.
Page 2 of 2 - No one hates the “E-word” more than me. The stationary bike has been my savior this long winter. I have mentioned before that I detest forced exercised. I am very much looking forward to warmer weather and the opportunities for natural exercise that it brings. I am also looking forward to riding a real bike this year, swimming and trying my hand at kayaking when we venture to the Keys this summer.
Wish me luck this week. The first of many finish lines is in clear sight now. I’ll see you on the other side and we’ll celebrate together!
