  • LIBERTY, NY — A hands-on workshop exploring the traditions of making chutney is being offered Saturday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The class, given by Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s Master Food Preservation program, will be held at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center, 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road.
Long-time master food preserver volunteer Maria Grimaldi will help participants to discover the spices and flavors of chutney from different cultural traditions. Everyone will have the opportunity to taste samples of chutney and learn serving suggestions.
Each culture discussed in the workshop has a variation of this old method of persevering fruits and vegetables for a delicious and nutritious condiment. Chutney makes a great gift option that can be preserved and stored for later use.
Participants will take two versions of chutney home with them.
Cost for the program is $30 per person and includes a light lunch. Space is limited so registration with non-refundable payment is required in advance.
Registration and more information can be obtained by calling 845-292-6180 or emailing SueAnn Boyd at srb46@cornell.edu.
