  • Back on the Wagon!

  • So another year has come and gone and here we go again. New Year’s resolutions have been made and a large number of us are “back on the wagon.” The wagon I speak of in this instance is the one heading in the direction of weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.

  • So another year has come and gone and here we go again. New Year’s resolutions have been made and a large number of us are “back on the wagon.” The wagon I speak of in this instance is the one heading in the direction of weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. As you may recall, I took part in the 2013 Weight No More (WNM) competition and lost a total of 25.8lbs over the 12 week challenge. When I weighed in at the Wayne County YMCA this past Saturday I was semi pleased to see that I had managed to maintain 16.8lbs of that weight loss even though I “fell off the wagon” back in early April. The majority of my weight gain actually took place in the latter part of 2013. Prior to the holiday season, I was relatively close to weighing what I did when WNM concluded last year. I believe I was able to maintain 65% of that original weight loss due to the fact that even though I was not religiously tracking my food intake, blogging and exercising daily I was mindful of past lessons learned. Even though I was not devout, I did keep those Classic Coke’s to a minimum and drank diet soda or water more often than not. I made a conscientious effort to be more active in my everyday life and I was semi self-aware of my food choices overall. I still brought my lunch to work most days. I still made the effort to eat a small breakfast daily and have healthy snacks on hand, etc. I was kind of, sort of dieting and I had kind of, sort of results. Over the next 12 weeks my personal goal is to lose 30lbs. I know it is possible and I know I need to make some changes. As of yesterday I began tracking everything that I eat. I am again following the Weight Watchers plan as that is what works for me personally. I am also committed to riding my stationary bike for 30 minutes every day and drinking 8-10 glasses of water. This column also serves as part of my plan. Reporting my results publically every week really helps to keep me accountable. Plus, I have thrown down the gauntlet to my co-worker Guy Mathews once again. The competition between the two of us is enough motivation alone. Just for the sake of his ego I cannot let him defeat me. Trust me! Ultimately I have my eye on a 60lb weight loss by July. After nearly twelve years of unwedded bliss Jim and I have decided to make it legal and get married. We have opted for an intimate barefoot beach wedding in the Florida Keys and I have visions of transforming myself into a tan and lean bride between now and then. I have my work cut out for me, but I have a goal and I am up to the challenge. Nothing worth doing is ever easy but with your support and some dedication on my part I can and I will!
