Extreme cold will be over the area through Saturday morning. The counties effected are: Sullivan-bradford-susquehanna-northern wayne-wyoming-lackawanna- Luzerne-pike-southern wayne. Including the cities of Monticello, Towanda, Sayre, Montrose, Tunkhannock, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Milford and Honesdale The Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. The Wind Chill Advisory has dangerously cold wind chills of 15 to 25 below zero; Northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Wind chills will drop to between minus 10 to minus 25 late Friday night. Wind chills will drop again saturday morning to near 25 below. In addition, blowing snow will make for very poor visibility at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions: A wind chill advisory is issued when winds combine with very cold temperatures to create dangerous conditions for exposed skin. The Wind chill is expected to be cold enough to cause frostbite in about 30 minutes or less and could lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Those planning to venture outdoors should use common sense and dress warmly, making sure that all exposed skin is covered. The Winter Storm Warning is cancelled.
