Three of the region’s top business organizations are joining forces to best meet the needs of the community and the businesses they serve. The Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Wayne Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce recently began the process of merging to form a new organization. The new Chamber is expected to become one of the largest organizations of its kind in Northeast Pennsylvania. Over the last several months a team of directors with representation from each of the Chambers took part in a number of collaborative strategic planning sessions led by Chamber veteran and consultant for the initiative, Scott J. Weiland, Ph.D. The goal of these sessions was to determine how to best serve current members while continuing to promote positive growth and prosperity for the region. This merger became the recommendation of the committee to the respective boards and has since been approved by each directorate. “The three Chamber boards are looking forward to working together in building on one united Chamber of Commerce,” said Ann O’Reilly, President of the Southern Wayne Chamber of Commerce. Once finalized, the new organization will consist of more than 700 members. “This proactive move will allow members to double their audience, double their market and enhance networking,” added Jim Shook, President of the Pocono Lake Region Chamber. This larger Chamber will be better positioned to champion the efforts of local member businesses. “This move is about increasing value for our members and helping to streamline our efforts across each of the Chambers,” commented Todd Stephens, President of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. The new Chamber will be known as “The Chamber of the Northern Poconos." Volunteer leaders from each of the partnering Chambers worked together to identify a brand that best fits the new organization. A special membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort, Rt. 507, Lake Wallenpaupack. A Meet & Greet is planned for 11:15 a.m. with the joint membership meeting and luncheon beginning promptly at noon. Dr. Scott Weiland will be the keynote speaker for the event. He will present an overview of the process and answer questions. To make reservations for the January 15th luncheon event, please contact the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 by calling 570-253-1960 or email email@example.com.
