  • -On Wednesday night at Top Notch Distributors, veterans and children were celebrated during the 4th Annual “Christmas is for the Kids.” Two troops from Preston Area Cadettes provided some musical entertainment. They were from Troop 50673 and Junior Troop 50081. VFW Post #531 of Honesdale was also honored. Preston Area Cadettes started off by singing “Proud to be an American” to recognize the veterans. What made the moment even more special was when the crowd started singing the song with them. The troops then sang a few Christmas carols. After, refreshments were given out and there was even a visit from Santa Clause, who took pictures with the children. “We're celebrating the joy of youth in the community,” said Wanda Jurgensen, co-owner of Top Notch in Honesdale. “The veterans did what they did so kids can grow up in a community like ours.” Top Notch donated all of the gifts children could pick from, including a set of socks, gloves and a hat. The veterans also got to pick out something.
