Four high school students from Canaan Christian Academy recently traveled to Harrisburg where they participated in an All-State Choir seminar and concert. The choir, sponsored by the Keystone Christian Education Association, was held on Nov. 14-16. The students from Canaan Christian Academy who participated included Samantha Beals, Honesdale; Maggie Black, Lake Ariel; John May, Honesdale, and Shannin Soulsby, Jessup. Students in grades 9-12 were screened and nominated by the local school administration and music faculty. Subsequently each nominated student auditioned for the Keystone organization. Approximately 120 students participated from schools across Pennsylvania and represented Christian schools from every geographic region of the state. The young people joined voices in singing eleven religious, classical, and folk works. Their final concerts were performed in the capitol rotunda at Harrisburg on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This year’s guest conductor was Dr. David Ledgerwood. Ledgerwood said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as clinician for the 2013 KCEA All-State Choir. Because of the extensive audition process and the time spent by the directors in helping with the music, the students came prepared to sing. We tackled some very difficult music, but the students rose to the occasion and it was a joy to be able to work with them. Singing in the Pennsylvania state capitol is certainly a wonderful experience, and personally meaningful to me because of my prior involvement with KCEA.” Canaan Christian Academy is a PreK-4 through Grade 12 private Christian School located across from Western Wayne Middle School on 30 Hemlock Road in South Canaan.
