The Milanville Store is once again working to help out organizations during the holiday season. Vanessa DeGori, owner of the store, wanted to help out in the community, so she started this recurring holiday project. The Milanville Store has supported a variety of organizations and people, including The Wounded Warrior Project, anysoldier.com and local children with life changing illnesses. Last year, The Milanville Store helped out Alonzo Wood, a little boy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). “This year, I picked three groups that mean a lot to me,” DeGori said. Those organizations are Kids Peace, which helps with foster care and adoption in Honesdale, the Dessin Animal Shelter and sending care packages to troops in Afghanistan. “It's my way of helping other children and the community,” DeGori stated. “It's a way of paying it forward.” Last year, DeGori said “over $5,000” was donated between monetary donations, gift cards and more. The Milanville Store has already started collecting items for the organizations. The following is a wish list for each group, although DeGori stated that “anything brought in” will be helpful. Kids Peace has requested children's pajamas, socks, hats, gloves and toys. Dessin Animal Shelter is in need of leashes, collars, kitty litter, rawhide, Pounce treats for cats and cleaning supplies. The care packages for Afghanistan need beef jerky, microwave meals, snacks and comfort foods. “I am hoping that this year we will receive the overwhelming support that we have in the past,” DeGori said. “We are always proud to say what a caring and giving community we live in.” Donations can be dropped off at The Milanville Store. They will be accepted until Dec. 20. Call Vanessa DeGori with any questions at (570) 729-8390. To learn more about these organizations visit kidspeace.org/ and www.dessinshelter.com.
