  • The Wayne Chapter PASR (Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees) met recently at Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort for their fall luncheon. Pat Spoor, community service chairperson, presented the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2013 to Pat Kandrovy who gave over 500 hours of service in the areas of social services, political, religious, and services to youth. President Leroy Spoor presented the Outstanding Chapter Volunteer of the Year to Ellen Keefer for her committee work with the educational support activities in the three school districts of Western Wayne, Wayne Highlands and Wallenpaupack Area. She is also active in all the service activities of the chapter. Various committee reports were given by Joe Kandrovy, Barbara Connor, Pat Spoor, Ellen Keefer, Pat Kandrovy , Jane Peet, and Jane Varcoe. Eloise Fasshauer presented the necrology program for those who passed since our spring luncheon. Mel Vogler spoke concerning her candidacy for a spot on the PSERS Board representing school retirees. President Spoor presented a certificate from the State PASR on becoming a “One Star” chapter, having accomplished all the activities for the past year under the area of Service. Only 24 of the 72 chapters in the state were honored at the recent convention in Lancaster. Spoor also announced that Monique Lautenschalger was appointed Region 3 Social Service Memorial Honor Fund chairperson and will sit in the state board for this committee. Under the direction of Community Service chairperson, Pat Spoor, everyone in attendance signed and wrote greetings on Christmas cards which will be sent to our veterans. Also, toiletries were collected and will be sent to troops who are deployed. The chapter will be purchasing winter clothing and providing holiday dinners for needy families in the three districts. Tom Kennedy offered the invocation, after which a delicious meal was enjoyed by all. The entertainment for the afternoon was presented by a group from the Western Wayne Marching Band, under the direction of Ray Stedenfeld. Numerous door prizes were awarded at the close of the meeting. The Wayne Chapter PASR welcomes all school retirees to join this active group.
