- A fatal crash occurred Saturday afternoon took the life of a long time member of the American Legion, Post 807 in Hamlin. According to police, the two car crash happened at 4:41 p.m. on Route 3028, Owego Turnpike in Pike County in the vicinity of Rowe Farm. A 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, driven by Manuel A. Mirailh, 57, of Lake Ariel, was heading west on the Owego Turnpike. Mirailh lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons "while negotiating a left curve in the roadway," causing the vehicle to enter the eastbound land head on. Mirailh impacted a 2014 Mazda operated by Antonio A. Silva, 46, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. Also in Silva's vehicle were three passengers. The impact caused Silva's vehicle to turn onto its side, "trapping the four occupants in the vehicle." Those in the car were rescued by the personnel from the White Mills and Hawley Fire Departments. All four occupants were transported to Geisinger Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries. As a result of the crash, Mirailh was pronounced dead at the scene from "multiple traumatic injuries" by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell. The Troop R Collision and Accident Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Services unit assisted at the scene. This crash is under investigation. Information should be reported to Cpl. Derek D. Felsman, PSP Honesdale, at 570-253-7126. Crash PSP Dunmore reports a crash occurred on Interstate 84 Saturday night. According to police, Adam Heinsman, 23, of Pottsville, was traveling west on Interstate 84 when his vehicle "traveled off the highway." When the vehicle left the road, it hit an embankment and overturned. The vehicle "came to rest upright facing east in the center median." Reports state Heinsman "showed signs of intoxication" and a small amount of "suspected marijuana" was found in the vehicle. Heinsman was taken to the Community Medical Center to be treated for a minor head injury. Charges are pending the results of a BAC testing. Fatal crash PSP Dunmore report a fatal crash occurred late Saturday night on Interstate 81 south in Scott Township. According to police, the incident occurred when a vehicle, driven by Joseph A. Rinkunas, 61, of Scranton, was "negotiating a right hand curve" in the roadway. Rinkunas traveled "out of the left lane and onto the left shoulder of the roadway." The vehicle traveled along the shoulder "for a short distance" before striking a rock embankment along the median. After the impact, the vehicle traveled back on to the road, coming to rest blocking both southbound travel lanes. Rinkunas did not survive the crash. Domestic violence A case of domestic violence is under investigation in Carbondale. According to PSP Dunmore, David Turano, 43, and Heather Strackbein, 30, were "involved in a verbal argument" that escalated and became physical as Strackbein struck Turano. As a result, Strackbein was taken for treatment of injury by EMS. Turano was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment. Charges were filed against Strackbein for harassment.
