Wayne Memorial Hospital/Health System Board Secretary Judi Mortensen drew a round of applause from fellow board members when she had a flu shot at the annual board meeting Oct. 23.
James Pettinato, RN, director of Patient Care Services, administered vaccinations that evening to Mortensen, board chair Lee Oakes and board members Julie Seiler and Lenny Tasselmyer.
Everyone pictured had received a flu shot in preparation for this year’s flu season, which runs from Oct. 1 through March 31, 2014.
The flu virus can be passed to someone else even before symptoms show up. According to the Centers for Disease Control, most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to five to seven days after becoming sick.
Wayne Memorial Hospital offers vaccinations to its staff and hopes for 100 percent compliance this year. Staff who are not vaccinated must wear a mask in patient care areas.
