  • Somehow, when you think of Hallowe'en music, the pipe organ looms heavily.
From Lon Chaney playing the organ in the original film of the "Phantom of the Opera," to "Jeckyll & Hyde," to Captain Nemo in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," to Don Knotts in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken," the pipe organ has been associated with horror music.
So, what better way to celebrate this Hallow-Day than a recital of organ music.
Father Ed Erb, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, and noted organist, will offer a special recital this All Hallow's Eve - Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. on the organ at Grace Church.
"Raising the Dead" with Bach's Tocatta & Fugue in D Minor, Gounod's "Marche Funebre d'une Marionnette (Alfred Hitchcock's theme song), and Boellmann's Gothic Suite, Fr. Erb will lead listeners through ghouls and greats - specters to saints - as we celebrate those who have gone before us into the after-life.
A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the rebuilding of Grace Church's 1960 M.P.Moller pipe organ, considered one of the best instruments in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Grace Church is located on the corner of Church and Ninth Streets in Honesdale. For information, you may call the parish office at 570-253-2760.
