  • MTV is partnering with the executive producer behind The Bachelor to get back into the singing competition space. But here's the twist: Contestants on the new series Copycat will have to emulate their favorite singers.
The network has given a series production order to Copycat, a daily half-hour show where performers will battle each other as they impersonate the sound of popular recording artists. The studio audience will vote on every performance, with the winner taking home a cash prize and the title of "Ultimate Copycat."
MTV hasn't yet determined when Copycat will air or what it will be paired with. Current daily MTV series include The Hook Up (which premieres Oct. 14 at 6/5c), Friendzone and Girl Code.
The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss is executive producer with Brendon Carter (Gene Simmons Family Jewels). Fleiss is known for his dating shows, but also has some experience in the music competition world: He executive produced The WB's 2004 parody Superstar USA, in which talented singers were eliminated and bad singers remained. Fleiss' Next Entertainment and Warner Horizon TV produce Copycat.
