– William Schweighofer, President and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.

Thomas E. Sheridan, Jr. has been named president and CEO effective Jan. 1, 2014.

Schweighofer joined the bank in 1975 and held the leadership role of CEO since 1982.

Schweighofer stated, "After nearly 40 years at HNB, it is my pleasure to pass the torch to Tom Sheridan. He is a perfect fit for this position. His many years of banking experience along with his tireless work ethic have well prepared him for this leadership role."

Schweighofer will become Chairman of the Board of Honat Bancorp, Inc. and The Honesdale National Bank on Jan. 1, 2014 replacing John P. Burlein, VMD who served as chairman since 1996 and will remain on the board and serve in the capacity of vice chairman.

Burlein said, "It has been a privilege to serve as chairman of the board for 17 years. I am truly honored that William Schweighofer will replace me as chairman and look forward to remaining on the board as vice chairman."

Schweighofer added, "HNB is a very special place. Our board of directors and the entire staff are caring, compassionate and dedicated professionals. I feel honored to be associated with them."

Sheridan joined The Honesdale National Bank in May 2001 as executive vice president and chief operating officer and was named vice president and treasurer of Honat Bancorp, Inc. in 2004.

Prior to joining The Honesdale National Bank, Sheridan held various positions at another financial institution leaving that company as chief operating officer. His banking career began in 1978 when he worked at the Hawley Bank.

Sheridan received his B. S. in accounting from the University of Scranton in 1979. He also received his Certified Bank Auditor Certificate from the Bank Administration Institute in 1984 and went on to get his MBA in accounting from the University of Scranton in 1986.

Sheridan successfully completed the Pennsylvania Banker Association's Executive Leadership Program in December 2007 and currently serves that organization on its Member Services Policy Committee.

Sheridan is an active board member of the Wayne County Community Foundation since 2000 and currently serves as treasurer. He also serves as a member of the board of both the Human Resources Center, Inc. and the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation.

Sheridan and his wife, Victoria, reside in Hawley and are the proud parents of two adult children, Cody and Kelsey.

The Honesdale National Bank is the oldest, independent community bank serving Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier Counties of New York. The bank was established in 1836 and has nine full service community bank offices in Wayne, Pike, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Susquehanna counties.
