  • Funds are being raised for a Western Wayne High School alumni after he was injured during the shootings at the Navy Yard last month.
Washington Metro Police Officer Scott Williams, class of 1987, was shot while in the line of duty searching for the shooter.
Aaron Alexis, 34, went on a shooting rampage at the Navy Yard on Sept. 16, killing 12 people before being fatally shot by police.
Williams was one of the first officers on scene and assembled the team that went into building 197 to save people whose lives were "being threatened by the active-shooter."
The team came under fire, when Williams "was shot in both legs," cracking his left leg femur bone and causing his right leg femur bone to shatter.
He had surgery that same day.
Family members said that he is expected to recover, but that he has a "long road" ahead of him.
A page has been set up to help raise money for Williams and his family during this time of need. The website is http://www.gofundme.com/4mr5tc.
You can also send cards, letters and donations to Patrol Canine Corps c/o Scott Williams, 4667 Blue Plains Drive, S.W. Washington, D.C. 20032.
As of press time over $2,285 has been raised through the donation page. The goal is $5,000.
