One of the myths that folks on this blog are deluding themselves with is that the Tea Party is a fringe groups of nuts. An Associated Press-GfK survey that just comes out states that 40% of all Republicans identify with the Tea Party. I tend to think of the Associated Press-GfK as a fairly biased left wing organization, but since I think the real number is over 50%, I’ll accept that the real number is probably still somewhere between, and agree with the AP conclusion that “the tea party is more than a gang of malcontents in the political landscape…” Meanwhile, 53% of all American are negative about Obama, whereas Tea Party Republicans in Congress have approval ratings which are starting to soar as the shut down glides beautifully along. Indeed, even AP is now pondering that with the Tea Party folks scoring high amongst their constituents, the 5% approval rating of Congress may be a reflection of the Democrats, not the Republicans. This is AP speaking, not some credible news source, so if AP is downplaying the numbers, folks on the blog should now get why the Republicans aren’t so anxious to give up on their fight for the American people.
