  • Caregivers and health care professionals are invited to a class entitled “Authentic Companion: Care in the Last Days of Life and Presence at the Bedside” on Saturday, Oct. 19.
From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Padma Dyvine, RN, MA, CHPN, End of Life Care Practitioner, will provide guidance in this free workshop held at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road in Liberty.
Dyvine, a retired Hospice Nurse, is offering this four hour workshop to family, friends, interested community members and professionals who provide care to people who are dying.
Using both instructive and experiential techniques, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of themselves, the dying process, and the caregiving process as it changes in the last days.
End of life care is demanding, exhausting, rewarding and an honor,” said Bonnie Lewis, RN, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County Caregiver Resource Center (CRC) Coordinator and educator, “The workshop reinforces that caregivers need to care for themselves as they care for others during this period of time.”
Participants will be nurtured as they practice deep listening and centering skills and will be encouraged to ask questions and share with others as they prepare for this very challenging time.
Participants are to bring their own lunch, but coffee, tea and dessert will be provided by the CRC program. Registration is encouraged by calling (845) 292-6180 by Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The Sullivan County Caregiver Resource Center is a co-partnered program of Cornell Cooperative Extension and Office of the Aging.
