  • Here we are, two days away from a possible government shutdown.
It seems insane that we have come to this point in America.
The problem is very simple — too much shouting and showmanship.
Some of the people we send to Washington are more interested in their own personal goals instead of the reason they are there which is to do what is right for the people.
Gone are the days when the elected officials could actually come to compromises.
Of course, the biggest issue hanging out there is the new health care law which kicks into high gear on the same day the government could shut down.
It doesn't seem to matter to many that the law was legitimately passed and signed by the President. That is a fact.
Instead, the fringe elements want to make a current law the issue instead of dealing with the big issues of the day like employment, immigration, housing, poverty and many other matters.
    Why is this the case?
Those who say they are principled believe the health care law, in their words, is going to bankrupt America.
But is that the real reason?
    Probably not.
The real reason is more likely the fact that once the law is implemented fully, many people may actually benefit. That would make the fringe element very nervous. They don't want the American people to be comfortable. They would rather we be in constant turmoil.
That way, they can then use the national media and other outlets to scare us into thinking they are right about everything.
    They are not.
Page 2 of 2 - In fact, most of these nutballs have been on the wrong side of history for a long time and on just about every issue you can imagine.
They were wrong about integration. They were wrong about women's rights. They are wrong about voting rights. They are wrong about women's health. They are wrong about same-sex issues. They were wrong about Social Security. They were wrong about Medicare and Medicaid. They are wrong about food stamps.
    The list is almost endless.
But just ask them and they will tell you they are right on the issues, history be damned.
It is a sad state of affairs in this country and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better until the American people quit basing their decisions on talk radio and learn to make their own decisions.
The first one which needs to be made is to toss the crazies out of office and actually find reasonable people who understand how government and lawmaking actually work.
You know we have dropped to the bottom of the barrel when those in government don't understand government.
And besides, these are the people who say government can't create jobs. Do they not know they work for the government and are doing a lot of this to keep that government job and all of the great benefits which come with the position?
The average net worth of congress members is more than $800,000. That's average, which means some are multi-millionaires.
No matter where you stand, you can't argue with the fact that is not representation by the people. It's representation by the out of touch with reality.
