Story time is back!
Starting Sept. 20 and continuing every other Friday through December, Lila Urban will host story time at Pleasant Mount Library Friday evenings from 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2-3:30 p.m., calligrapher Terry Antoniewicz will conduct handwriting analysis workshop entitles Discover Yourself-Handwriting Tells!
In addition to over 130 magazines that may be accessed free online through Zinio, officials have announced three new print editions are now available at the library: Barron's Weekly, Golf Digest and Cigar Aficionado.
The library will wrap up this month with a salute with a salute to Banned Book Week. The purpose of this international program, which is observed Sept. 22 - 28, is to celebrate our freedom to read the materials of our choice. Included in the top 100 banned and challenged books from 2000 to 2009 are Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and the children's book series Capitan Underpants by Dave Pilkey. Read the list in its entirety in the Friend's Corner at the library. Copies are also available to go.
While you're in the corner, check out Cat Anderson's private collection of antique and old time schoolroom artifacts such as an authentic children's desk, ink well, primers, school bell and slide rule.
