  • Still Waters Run Deep: Feeling a bit clammy

  • Over the weekend my family and I went to a clam bake, which was a big hit for anyone who actually does eat clams of course (ie my dad, brother and brother-in-law).
At least there was other food as well, which works out great for those like my mom, my sister and myself who don't put clams on the top of our "what shall I eat today" list.
Considering I haven't had much seafood I guess I can't really say I like it, but I am a big fish eater. I'll go to Red Lobster just for the fish for sure. I've tried shrimp and I'm not a fan. And things like crab and lobster I'm actually skeptical to try.
Who knows if I will ever cross that boundary, but if this past weekend is any indication then it probably will happen.
After we were at the clam bake for awhile my brother-in-law Benn convinced me that I should try a clam. So Sean let me take one of his, I dipped it in butter and said "here goes nothing," then tried a clam for the very first time.
Sparing any details, I will simply say that it didn't go very well and I don't like clams. It's actually odd considering I will eat New England Clam Chowder soup. And yet I don't like a clam on its own. Perhaps it's because with the soup, there are other foods included that mask the taste of the clam, thus letting it go right down without me even noticing it.
This is one of those odd, perhaps embarrassing, tales and yet here I am sharing my story.
I'm really not much of a picky eater. If I am asked where we should go for lunch or what we should have for dinner, I will be undecided and can't pick something I would be in the mood for. Let's be honest, as long as I like the food, I wouldn't care if I just ate it the day before. I would totally go for it again in a heartbeat.
I will more than likely continue eating New England Clam Chowder soup, but I know I won't be going anywhere near a clam on its own again.
