  • It's that time of year again where fans start sporting jerseys and the colors of their NFL football teams.
Another year has passed, another off season has come and gone and another training camp is behind us. Opening day was Sunday, with more excitement last night (which included my Eagles playing the Redskins).
I already know what a lot of you are thinking: that the Eagles don't stand a chance. I already get the jokes from my fellow editorial staff members (ahem).
I, on the otherhand, find it funny how everyone is so down and out about the Eagles doing well (except for Eagles fans who have stayed through thick and thin of course). Sure, we've had a rough go of it and haven't had a Super Bowl ring in quite some time, but don't count us out yet.
This year is a lot of a rebuilding season if you will, with a new head coach and new players fighting for a starting spot. Even if you aren't an Eagles fan I doubt you never heard a thing about the competition between Mike Vick and Nick Foles for starting quarterback. Although I'm not the biggest Vick fan and wish Foles was named starter I can only hope that Vick will help us out more and be a bit more consistent than years past.
Many will say that preseason means nothing, but isn't part of the reason for doing it to see where the teams are at and what they can improve on for the year? That said, the Eagles fared quite well this preseason, even playing a great game against one of the best teams in the league. We may have lost to the Patriots but it wasn't like they massacred us. We didn't win them all but we had some great showings during preseason.
I'm just saying don't count us out yet.
While we are rebuilding and the players are adjusting to a new coaching system, the Eagles are ready to take on any team and at the very least give them a run for their money.
If this is the year for the underdogs (considering the Cowgirls beat the Giants, the Steelers lost, and even the Jets managed a win—all in week one), then every team should watch their backs.
The Eagles are much better than before and are coming out to win. Sure we need improvements like all teams do, but we aren't backing down. We will simply do what the song says: fly like an eagle, to the sea, fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me.
It isn't over until it's over.
My only hope is that come print today, the Eagles defeated the Redskins and all is right with the world.
