Honesdale carried a 19-14 lead into the fourth quarter, but simply couldn't hang on in its 2013 varsity football debut.
The Hornets battled visiting East Stroudsburg North deep into the final stanza, but surrendered two late touchdowns en route to a disappointing 29-19 loss.
"We want to come out fired-up and ready to hit somebody on both sides of the line," Red & Black skipper Jim Ludwig said just moments before kick-off. "We don't have a ton of kids on the roster, but the ones we have are football players and I expect them to come out hitting."
That was the case early in the ballgame as the Hornets quarterback Kevin Miller and tailback Kyle Carney each tallied electrifying touchdowns. Sadly, the Red & Black couldn't sustain that momentum ... especially on defense.
Coach Ludwig's lads will look to rebound next Friday night for one of the season's biggest games when archrival Wallenpaupack Area comes calling.
