The Wayne County Historical Society is offering the following programs this weekend:
• Friday, Aug. 30- Plain Speaking Series - Hank Loftus "A Feel for Dorflinger Glass"
This Friday evening, Hank Loftus will be the presenter for Plain Speaking in the multi-purpose room of the Wayne County Historical Society, 810 Main Street in Honesdale. Loftus is the Curator of the Dorflinger Glass Museum. He will give tips on identifying Dorflinger and other fine cut glass using samples. The program takes place from 5 to 6 p.m. The program is free of charge and all are welcome to attend.
• Saturday, Aug. 31- Ritz Company Playhouse Benefit Performance.
The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. for a benefit performance of the Jack Sharkey comedy "Take a Number, Darling" at the Ritz Company Playhouse in Hawley. The evening's performance will benefit the Wayne County Historical Society. Grab a friend and have a laugh when a concert pianist and his soap opera star wife get caught up in comical confusion when two surprise visitors from their past show up during an interview with a scandal magazine! A great night of theater and a great way to raise funds for the WCHS. Tickets are available at the WCHS table the night of the performance.
• Sunday, Sept. 1- Sundays at the Museum - Ann O'Hara and the Photo Archives.
This Sunday from 2-3 p.m., Ann O'Hara of the WCHS will give attendees a sneak peak at the Historical Society's immense photo archive. The talk will start out in the multi-purpose room of the Historical Society's Main Museum located at 810 Main Street in downtown Honesdale. This is a must see for anyone interested in photography and the history of Wayne County. The program is free of charge and all are welcome to attend.
• Wednesday, Sept. 4, Tastes of Wayne County "First Wednesdays."
Make plans early to support the Wayne County Historical Society by dining out on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at local favorite, The Halfway House Restaurant located at 60 Brook Road in Honesdale. The Halfway House has a delicious menu with everything from their famous hot wings, pizza, wraps and burgers to tantalizing specials including Italian dishes, fish specials and comfort food. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wayne County Historical Society.
