  • — State Sens. John Yudichak and Lisa Baker joined numerous state representatives, corrections officers and the family of Eric Williams at a ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque dedicated to the corrections officer killed in the line of duty earlier this year.
"Eric Williams will always be remembered as a living, breathing hero whose legacy is not his death but the remarkable life he led in service to his family, his community and his country," Yudichak said. "The Walk of Honor is a special place for the men and women who serve and protect our communities – and will now forever memorialize the sacrifices made by Officer Williams."
The Walk of Honor, located at the Luzerne County Community College's Public Safety Training Institute in Nanticoke, was initially established as a memorial to Michael Scott Carlo, a NYFD firefighter from Luzerne County who lost his life in the rescue mission on Sept. 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center.
"It is fitting to have this plaque, bearing Eric Williams' name, join the others along this Walk of Honor; in this way, the memory of his life, his work, and his loss, will endure," Baker added. "We will be reminded that there is a price paid for us to live in safety and we shall recommit to do what is needed to guard the health and safety of all those working diligently and faithfully to protect us."
Warden David Ebbert from the U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan, Luzerne County Community College president Thomas Leary and state Reps. Eddie Day Pashinski, Gerald Mullery and Mike Carroll also took part in the dedication ceremony.
Eric Williams was murdered by an inmate in February while working at the U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan in Wayne County.
