  • — Honesdale Borough Police Chief Joe LoBasso is leaving for a new position.
LoBasso was hired on Tuesday night by the Wayne Highlands School Board as the district's new security officer.
His salary will be $50,000 annually, according to Superintendent Greg Frigoletto.
"It is very fortunate for us," said Frigoletto of getting LoBasso to be the new security officer. "We had great candidates across the board."
Frigoletto said LoBasso "already has" the connections in the community which are an important part of this position.
"He knows the kids, he knows the system, he knows the community," said Frigoletto.
The superintendent said the position will require "outreach to the community," and he feels LoBasso is in the position to fill that role.
The position has been discussed recently during the budget talks by the board. A few board members were against hiring the position, but it did pass when the motion was brought to the table.
An attempt to reach LoBasso before press time was unsuccessful.
    In other business:
The board hired David Jagger as the new principal at Damascus and Preston schools.
Jagger is currently the special education supervisor at Abbington Heights School District.
    His salary will be $106,940.
Frigoletto said there is nothing new to report on the current contract negotiations. The sides are still discussing the contract.
He also said they have not yet hired an assistant director of special education, another position which was added into the budget this year.
