     - This weekend, Honesdale will host its 53rd annual Sidewalk Sales event.
This year’s theme is The Honesdale “500” and will have many features and fun events. The event is sponsored by The Honesdale National Bank, with support from Wayne County Tourism.
Gail Tucker, Executive Director of the Greater Honesdale Partnership, said the event provides "a great opportunity to pick up a good deal on something that you've always wanted. It's a nice way to spend a weekend in the beautiful historic Honesdale."
Both days will feature local businesses who will have merchandise displayed on the sidewalk, plus a variety of visiting vendors. Friday, July 19 the hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, July 20, the main sales event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During these times there will be a wide variety of merchandise available from the various stores and vendors that will range from great gifts, clothing, jewelry and craft items.
The event also provides shoppers the option to support local businesses. Tucker said that it is important to support home-grown businesses, especially "in this difficult economic time."
There will be a D.J. under the Fred Miller pavilion on both days playing some of your favorite music. Additionally, there will be several race vehicles on Main Street for you to see.
GHP officials encourage you to wear your walking shoes and visit as many local businesses, restaurants, and vendors as possible. Stay the day and be sure to catch the movie in the Honesdale’s Central Park at dark. Stay the weekend and enjoy all that Wayne County has to offer.
Persons are also encouraged to visit the Wayne County Historical Society located at 810 Main Street. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. And make sure to bring the kids to the Apple Day Spa booth in front of the HNB Corporate Center where they can play the “Tire Change” game, and to R3 Hardware, located at 541 Main Street, where they can enjoy a bounce house and dunk tank!
And visit the beautiful and historic Wayne County Public Library, located at 1406 N. Main Street for their “Baubles and Books Sale” on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You’ll find a lot of neat items and lots of great books.

The first contestant to get five correct answers and move their car to the finish line will win $300 in cash. Second place receives $150 and the third place winner will win $50. There are consolation prizes for the fourth and fifth place contestants. All prizes donated by The Honesdale National Bank.
The Wayne County Farmers Market will be in full swing on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a large variety of plants, vegetables, and other homemade products.
After you’ve shopped until you drop, the Saturday action moves over to Church Street where there will be a classic car cruise around Central Park, complete with music by Rickie Z. from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Honesdale National Bank will award the prizes for the winners of their Honesdale “500” Classic Ride Photo Contest.
