PLEASANT MOUNT - The quiet little town of Pleasant Mount was filled with patriots of all ages for the annual Independence Day celebration.
The day began bright and early at 8 a.m. with the second annual Firecracker 5k, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 407. (See page A13 for complete coverage of this race.)
The marathon was followed by an extensive parade that took place for an hour. In the parade were many smiling faces and the popular tractor parade. The grand marshall for the event was Pat Biondo, who looked radiant while throwing candy to eager onlookers.
The tractor parade had tractors of all makes and models, ranging from the early 1900s to current day.
At the conclusion of the parade, the Costello-Monahan-Brown American Legion Post 964 conducted a ceremony in Meredith Park, under the statue of Samuel Meredith.
