If you want real horse power, this event is for you.

The annual draft horse pull is scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 9 at the Wayne County Fair.

"It's amazing to watch," said Jim Fox, entertainment chairman of the Wayne County Fair board.

The event consists of teams of two horses who are hooked up to a transfer sled with a hitch.

"You have to be very, very quiet when they drop that on the hitch," said Fox.

The reason is as soon as it is dropped on there, the horses take off, said Fox.

The teams have to pull 28 feet to qualify and move on into the next rounds.

There are different classes in the event comprised of of different breeds of horses and teams.

Most of the teams are out of New York State, said Fox. It is part of the New York State Horse Pullers Association tour.

He said there are a couple of teams from Pennsylvania who generally come to the event and are part of the New York tour.

"A lot of them are farm working horses," said Fox.

There are two divisions in the event, heavyweight and lightweight.

There is prize money for the top eight places in each division. First place winners in each division takes home $275.

Also, the winners in each of the divisions receive a blanket from the fair board.

Fox said the event usually takes around two hours and he encourages everyone to come out and see just how much horsepower is involved in this interesting competition.
