Workshops to be held in July

REGION — Many people today are interested in growing and/or buying local foods and want to preserve them for use throughout the year.

“Yes I Can” is an introductory workshop providing today’s recommendations on how to safely can seasonal garden produce and specialty items.

It includes costs, equipment, how to use a pressure canner and boiling water bath canner, types of pack, safe methods and procedures, storage, and resources. Dial gauge canners can be tested for accuracy for those who bring the lid.

This workshop is designed for beginning canners who want to learn how to use a pressure canner with up-to-date procedures. The cost for the workshop is $20 per person or $30 for two adults from the same household (one packet of information).

There are four dates and locations to choose from:

• July 15, 3-5 p.m. at Pike County Area Agency on Aging, 150 Pike County Blvd., Hawley

• July 16, 1-3 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. at Monroe Extension, 724 Phillips St., Ste. 201, Stroudsburg

• July 24, 1-3 p.m. at Wayne Extension, 648 Park St., Ste. E, Honesdale

• July 31, 1-3 p.m. at Madonna Hall (behind Our Lady Mt Carmel- Carbon), 15 E Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning
