Beginning July 1, the Wayne County Recycling Center will accept small appliances containing refrigerants from Wayne County residents.
Residents can bring appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and icemakers to the Recycling Center, where the refrigerants will be safely evacuated by trained and certified staff in a manner that insures they are not released into the atmosphere (motor vehicle air-conditioners will not be accepted).
It is in violation of Federal regulations under the “Clean Air Act” to intentionally vent refrigerants, while maintaining, servicing, repairing or disposing of air-conditioning or refrigeration equipment.
Wayne County has entered into an agreement with a company to “recycle” those refrigerants that are still being used, and to “safely destroy” those that are no longer being manufactured or used.
Wayne County residents may bring any of the items listed above to the Wayne County Recycling Center (Route 652 – Beach Lake Highway, 1.7 miles east of Route 6 intersection) for a nominal fee of $10 per unit during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) and (Saturday 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.).
Call 570-253-9727 for additional information of questions.
