  • Beauty pageant Q&As rarely demonstrate one's eloquence, but one Miss USA contestant offered a head-scratching answer over the weekend that some commentators are calling the most awkward in pageant history.
Miss Utah Marissa Powell, 21, was responding to a question about pay inequality based on gender (read by pageant judge NeNe Leakes) when she got tongue-tied during the pageant Sunday night.

"Especially the men are, um, seen as the leaders of this and so we need to figure out how to create education better so that we can solve this problem," Powell said as part of her answer.
The response calls to mind Miss South Carolina Caitlin Upton in 2007, who referred to "U.S. Americans" and "the Iraq" when answering a question about maps during the Miss Teen USA pageant that year.
Powell ultimately placed third in the competition. Miss Connecticut, Erin Brady, 25, won the title.
