  • REGION — The destination for the Wayne County Historical Society's spring bus trip on
Sunday, June 23, is the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, described by one online reviewer as "one of the strangest museum one will ever encounter."
The museum's website at http://www.mercermuseum.org/ describes its history and mission.
The day will begin with a one-hour guided tour of Fontill, the home of Henry
Mercer, who founded the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works and created this
unique museum. Lunch, hosted by a knowledgeable museum interpreter, will be served in the Mercer Museum's Elkins Gallery, home to Edward Hicks'
"Peaceable Kingdom" and "Washington Crossing the Delaware."
The menu consists of a choice of sandwich (ham, tuna, roast beef, turkey or veggie wrap); choice of side salad (macaroni or potato) or chips; cookie and beverage (bottled water or soda).
After lunch there will be an orientation followed by a self-guided tour of the uniquely designed castle-like Museum, plus a visit to the museum shop.
The price for the trip, including bus fare, lunch and admission, is $65 for WCHS members and $70 for non-members.
The bus will depart from the Route 6 Mall in Honesdale at 8:30 a.m. and return to that location at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Reservations can be made by stopping at the museum at 810 Main Street, Honesdale, Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; by phone at 253-3240 or e-mail to vwchshop@ptd.net with a credit card. To reserve by mail, send a check to Wayne County Historical Society, PO Box 446, Honesdale, PA 18431.
Be sure to provide your address, phone number and e-mail; you will receive a
    confirmation.
The deadline for reservations is June 12.
    Officials regret that
refunds cannot be made for cancellations made after that date.
