-Alex F. Punzi will be a student marshal for the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the Penn State College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 3.
He will receive a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
He has chosen Massimiliano Fratoni, assistant professor of nuclear engineering, to be his faculty escort.
College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
Punzi is the son of Madeline and Alfred Punzi of Honesdale. He is a 2008 graduate of Honesdale High School.
His academic awards and honors include the Evan Pugh Scholar Award (senior), the John J. Brennan Award for Excellence in Nuclear Engineering, the SMART Scholarship, the Exelon Nuclear Engineering Scholarship, the McMurty Family Scholarship in Engineering, the Louis A. Harding Memorial Scholarship, the Fred Schneider Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering, the American Nuclear Society Pittsburgh Local Section Undergraduate Scholarship and the Russel H. Herman Senior Scholarship in Engineering. He is a member of the Alpha Nu Sigma Honor Society for Nuclear Science and Engineering.
Punzi completed internships with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, where he worked as a test and hardware engineer in the Battle Management Systems Division, and the Penn State Applied Research Laboratory, where he was involved with research and fabrication in the Antennas and Electromagnetic Systems Division.
His extracurricular activities included the American Nuclear Society, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Happy Valley Solidworks Users Group, the Penn State Robotics Club, the Penn State Fencing Club and intramural basketball.
Following graduation, Punzi will be employed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, as a hardware engineer.
