-On Thursday Kinder Morgan, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, donated trees to students at Robert D. Wilson Elementary School.
Kinder Morgan is the “largest midstream and the third largest” energy company in North America, whose “principal assets” are pipelines and terminals. The company is based in Houston, Texas and they have a local office in Milford.
Tennessee Gas Pipeline, a Kinder Morgan company, is planing the Northeast Upgrade Project, also known as NEUP. So far they have installed approximately 40.9 miles of new 30-inch diameter pipeline looping in five separate segments located in Bradford, Wayne and Pike counties, as well as Sussex, Passaic and Bergen counties in New Jersey.
Modifications are also being done to three existing compressor stations in Bradford, Susquehanna and Pike counties and one in Sussex County, N.J.
Representatives of Kinder Morgan were handing out trees to the students, as well as hats. They are donating trees to one elementary school in each of the seven counties that the Northeast Upgrade Project is taking place-Wayne, Pike, Bradford and Susquehanna in Pennsylvania. and Sussex, Passaic and Bergen in New Jersey.
“This is the first time we're doing this in the country,” said Allen Fore, director of public affairs at Kinder Morgan. “We hope to make it nationally.”
He said that they know the construction project “impacts the area” and said donating trees back is a “good way” to address that issue.
Over 3,000 trees have been given out through this program.
“This is a good fit for us to do,” Fore said. “So far it's been well received. I would like to see this program continue.”
Kinder Morgan will also have a pipe yard and contractors field in Honesdale soon.
“We are hoping it will be open by the end of June,” Fore stated.
He added that there will be “about 400” people employed there.
