On the Tube: TV Reviews and More

Bridget is a Media Communication and Technology grad from East Stroudsburg University. She is now continuing her education with a graduate program in Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Bridget loves television and movies, and is always annoying her friends when watching the tube because she frequently asks “How did they do that?” or making predictions on whether a TV show will live past its first season. In order to avoid this habit, she now keeps this blog.

At the premiere for Iron Man 3, Avengers director/writer and all around geek god Joss Whedon confirmed that the Avengers 2 script has two additional characters. He's quoted as saying,

"I've got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic books. A brother/sister act. They're in the movie, that's exciting." Speculation is already leading folks to believe that he's talking about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Over on MTV's SplashPage, the theory is solidified by the fact tha talthough there are numerous brother/sister duos in Marvel, such as Cable and Rachel Grey or Aurora and Northstar, the only ones that are primarily Avengers characters are these two. The others are mostly X-Men characters above all else.

Whedon has finished a draft of the Avengers 2 with the mysterious “brother/sister act” included. “We're in a very good place,” he says. “It's going really well. Eventually somebody will explain to me that it's not. But I've been writing, meeting with actors, and we're starting to storyboard and all the preliminary processes. This is the part where it's all still fun."

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are known in the comics as having started in the Brotherhood of Evil before switching sides and joining the Avengers in the 1960s. They're also the children of classic villain Magneto. Time will tell if Whedon decides to go that route with these characters, but one can assume the Avengers and X-Men universes will remain separate. And besides, when you're working with a girl who can control probability and magic, and a guy who's super-fast, do we really need to get more complicated?

Thanks to the Mary Sue for posting the article, with the purpose of hoping there will be another leading lady on the Avenger's team. Let's see what happens, folks.
