— For over four years now, SEEDS has tried to serve the business community by presenting energy efficiency and renewable energy seminars to help you improve your bottom line and the environment.
Recently the USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) said that a deadline to submit a small business application for grant money for your energy efficient upgrade projects, or renewable energy installation projects has been extended to May 30.
Grant money is available for lighting upgrade projects. SEEDS just hosted a lighting efficiency seminar this past January, so if you have been considering an upgrade, REAP may cover your entire project costs.
Solar installation projects are also eligible. (SEEDS is currently in the midst of a Do-It-Yourself Solar Installation workshop. More information is available at www.seedsgroup.net.
Wind or geothermal installation, or the construction of a new energy efficient facility are also all eligible under this program.
The REAP grant will fund only projects completed after the application is submitted, and unfortunately cannot be applied to expenses already incurred.
Grant amounts for energy efficiency upgrades range from $1,500 - $250,000. For renewable energy projects, the range is $2,500 - $500,000 (Geothermal, Solar, Wind).
Angela Callie, who works in the USDA's Allentown office, has been in touch with SEEDS to help spread the word about the application deadline extension.
She has offered to help any of you with questions you have about the application process, including assistance with the application, in an effort to help you complete the process.
