Friday, April 19 was a special day giving thanks to the many volunteers that give their time, love and compassion for their fellow Wayne County Citizens! It was a day to recognize and show appreciation to the many Wayne County Human Services volunteers.

Volunteers honored included those that volunteer at the Honesdale Senior Center, Hamlin Senior Center, Hawley Senior Center, APPRISE Program, WCAAA Advisory Council, Caregiver Support Group Leader, Homebound Meal Drivers, AARP Tax Program, Christmas Bureau, Art Class Instructor, Dance Instructor, WC Food Pantry Program, quilters, senior center entertainers and special event volunteers. 140 volunteers enjoyed a delicious luncheon at Central House in Beach Lake. Entertainment was provided by Honesdale High School Chamber Choir members, Clay Hewlitt, Austin Orthouse, Sarah DeCrotie, Kelsey Frisk, Leah Schweighofer. The students were accompanied by Pat Spoor and Kerry Stuart. Thank you to Betty Ann Robson for coordinating the entertainment for us! Their performance was amazing!
This year special recognition was given to the Wayne County Aging's Advisory Council. Members include Donna Vinton (President), Ruth Wenk (Vice-President), Lorna Fries (Corresponding Secretary), Luella Coe, Margery Gregor, Janet Williams, Fran Lloyd, Joe Papp, Jerry McAllister, Bruce Mackle (also Field Representative for Senator Lisa Baker), Cornelius Mahoney, Juanita Pisano, Barbara Sprovkin and Laurie Barbarise (Recording Secretary).
Susan McAllister was also recognized for her years hosting the Caregivers Support Group meetings and Special recognition was given to Andrea (Andy) Whyte for giving her heart and soul for the last 40 years to make Wayne County a better place to live for its senior residents.
After a welcome from Community Services Director, Carleen Faatz, a moment of silence to reflect on the passing of two Advisory Council members, Bettie Hopler and Alberta Correll, they will be greatly missed.
Commissioner's Brian Smith and Jonathan Fritz spoke to the group praising them for all of the good they do for our community. Special guest, Kelly O'Donnell, Pennsylvania Department of Aging Chief of Staff then expressed her appreciation for the commitment the volunteers give to our County and acknowledged the value of their service. The invocation was given by Commissioner Wendell Kay.
