Fat comes in different forms, just like everything else. Further, there are beneficial fats and toxic fats. Processed, solid at room temperature fats are toxic to your body while omega – 3's, nuts, olive oil, avocados are beneficial to your body. The same properties hold true for fats inside your body. There are two varieties of fat, brown fat and white fat. Where the fat is stored is also detrimental to your health.
Brown fat helps keep the body warm and will burn calories when stimulated. Its more like muscle in that it has the capability of burning white fat in its attempt to keep you warm. White fat is an energy storage and secretes hormones which are then released into the bloodstream. The hormone released makes the liver and muscles responsive to insulin, which in turn makes one less vulnerable to diabetes and heart disease. As a person gains weight, the production of this hormone slows, or stops, which then leaves one unprotected against disease. The thing is, our bodies have more white fat cells than brown ones.
Now let's discuss types of fat. There are two types in your body. Visceral and subcutaneous. Subcutaneous fat lies just below your skin. This is the type measured with skin fold calipers, and is not as detrimental to health as visceral fat. Visceral fat is the worst type of fat. It is located deep within the body, surrounding your vital organs. A way to see if you have visceral fat would be to look down. See that belly? That's a sure sign that you have visceral fat.
Best way to keep the fat in check? Healthy eating, staying hydrated, and exercise. That way you also protect yourself from disease while ridding your body of fat.
