    — The 2013 Wayne County 4-H Tractor and Machinery Safety Certification Program is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 2, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Office, 648 Park Street (Park Street Complex), in Honesdale.
    Other meeting dates are: April 9, April 16, April 23 and April 30.
    The purpose of this 4-H club program is to offer important and valuable farm, tractor and machinery use and handling safety information for young people between the ages of 14 and 16 years of age, who intend to be employed on their family farm or by area farms.
    Emphasis, in this program, is given to proper tractor maintenance, starting and stopping tractors, the use of instruments and controls, farm safety situations, safety on public roads, the safe use of PTO’s (power – take-offs), hydraulics and hitches and general farmstead safety.
    A total of five classroom – type meetings, each two hours in length, will result in 10 hours of 4-H tractor and machinery safety instruction.
    The requirements of this 4-H club project includes: completion of a 4-H tractor and machinery safety project book, “passing” a written, multiple – choice examination and successfully competing in a tractor and machinery safety and handling tests.
    Participants that complete all of the requirements of this 4-H club program, will receive a “4-H Tractor and Machinery Safety Certificate.”
