  • — Jessie Con-ui, 36, has been identified as the suspect in the killing of corrections officer Eric Williams, 34, of Nanticoke, according to The Citizens Voice.
Williams was killed Feb. 25 inside USP Canaan with a "homemade weapon" according to released reports.
An order signed in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg on Monday by Chief Judge Yvette Kane says, in published reports, that Con-ui could face the death penalty. Attorneys have been appointed to represent him in this case.
Con-ui was serving more than 11 years in federal prison in a cocaine trafficking case out of Maricopa County, Arizona. He is also facing a life sentence in Arizona for the 2002 murder of a rival gang member. He was scheduled to be released from USP Canaan this September to be returned to Arizona to begin serving his life sentence there.
According to Arizona court records, Con-ui is a member of a gang called the New Mexican Mafia and was convicted of first-degree murder for shooting and killing Carlos Garcia in Phoenix. Two other members of the gang, Manuel Medrano and Johnny Frederick Farinas, were also charged in the Aug. 25, 2002 killing of Garcia.
Con-ui, according to the Bureau of Prisons website, was transferred to a high security prison in Allenwood, Union County.
